Start your day with a beautiful MMA behind-the-scenes video

There are plenty of fight highlight videos, but few give such a stark, behind-the-scenes look as this one. Some of the moments carry more weight when you know the story behind them. Melvin Guillard hugging Donald Cerrone and coach Greg Jackson is a beautiful moment on its own, but takes on more significance when you know Guillard once trained with Jackson and Cerrone. The run-up to their fight was tense, but afterwards they shared a hug.

But most of the images need no background. Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva celebrating after he knocked out Alistair Overeem, Joe Benavidez giving a quick fist-bump through the curtain of the medical area, and Mauricio "Shogun" Rua not wanting to put a hat on his bruised, swollen head say enough.

Thanks to MMA Fighting.

(AP) ? Activision is trading "Modern Warfare" for "Ghosts."

The video game publisher announced Wednesday that the next installment in its successful "Call of Duty" franchise will be titled "Call of Duty: Ghosts" and feature a new story and characters.

Activision Blizzard Inc. said "Ghosts" will be released Nov. 5 for PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and next-generation consoles.

The game is being developed by Infinity Ward, the Encino, Calif., studio that created the original "Call of Duty" and reignited the military first-person shooter franchise with 2007's "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare" and its two sequels.

"'Ghosts' delivers an all-new story, all-new characters, an all-new 'Call of Duty' world, all powered by a next generation 'Call of Duty' engine, which is a leap forward for the franchise," Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said in a statement. "Infinity Ward is going all-in to create the next generation of 'Call of Duty' worthy of the world's greatest fans."

For more than five years, the action-packed "Call of Duty" franchise has garnered unprecedented success.

The previous "Call of Duty" game, Treyarch's futuristic "Call of Duty: Black Ops II," crossed the $1 billion mark in worldwide retail sales 15 days after its release last year. Infinity Ward's "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3" hit the $1 billion mark in 16 days after its 2011 debut.

Activision said more details about "Ghosts" will be revealed May 21 at a Seattle presentation where Microsoft is expected to unveil the next Xbox.

'Kinky Boots' gets a leading 13 Tony Award nominations

BERLIN, April 29 (Reuters) - Barcelona will try every trick in the book to overturn a 4-0 first-leg deficit against Bayern Munich in their Champions League semi-final return leg on Wednesday, honorary Bayern president Franz Beckenbauer warned on Monday. Bayern crushed the Spaniards last week in a surprisingly one-sided encounter but Beckenbauer, former player, coach and president of Germany's most successful club, warned that Barcelona were not ready to surrender. "Barca will try everything to throw Bayern off balance," he told Bild newspaper. ...

Mars One will look for ? and hide from ? life on Mars

Mars One plans to put four astronaut-explorers on Mars by 2023, but they will take steps to avoid contaminating any lifeforms already on Mars.

By Mike Wall,?Space.com / April 29, 2013

If all goes according to plan, the first Mars One astronauts will touch down on the Red Planet in 2023. This artists' rendition shows what the surface of Mars could look like after they arrive.

Life may well lurk beneath the Martian surface today, but it'll be tough to detect without sending humans to the Red Planet, some experts say.

It could be a long time before robots are able to drill deep into the Martian underground, explore caves and investigate other potentially life-supporting habitats on the Red Planet. So if humanity wants to satisfy its curiosity about potential life on Mars?anytime soon, it should work to get boots in the red dirt, advocates say.

"We might be lucky and confirm life with robots over the next one to two decades, but it's probably going to take people to do, literally, the heavy labor to be able to do it," said Chris Carberry, co-founder and executive director of Explore Mars, a nonprofit organization dedicated to human exploration of the Red Planet.

Subsurface sanctuaries?

Most scientists think the frigid, dry and radiation-bombed Martian surface is unlikely to host life as we know it today. But conditions could be much more benign in underground environments such as caves or lava tubes, providing potential refuges for microbes.

"The subsurface is going to be radically different from the surface," astrobiologist and cave scientist Penny Boston, a professor at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, told SPACE.com late last year. "Every indication we have from caves of all different kinds?all over this planet [Earth] shows that it doesn't take much separation vertically for a radically different environment."

Indeed, the Martian subsurface is known to harbor water ice, and several recent studies suggest that pockets of liquid water may exist beneath the red dirt as well. Here on Earth, life thrives pretty much anywhere liquid water is found, so the possibility of current Martian aquifers excites astrobiologists.

Adding to the intrigue, Carberry said, is the fact that several different ground-based and space-based instruments have detected small amounts of methane in Mars' air. The gas could be an indicator of Red Planet life, some researchers say, since 90 percent of Earth's methane is biologically derived.

Further, scientists think methane disappears rapidly from the Martian atmosphere, meaning any of the stuff swirling there today was likely produced in the recent past.

"There is a strong, growing body of evidence that there could be subsurface life on Mars," Carberry told SPACE.com. "However, we may not be able to confirm that unless we send people."

Exploring the Martian underground

Carberry lauded the work of Red Planet robots such as the car-size Curiosity rover, whose mission team recently determined that Mars could have supported microbial life billions of years ago.

But he said the search for extant Martian life is really a job for human explorers, at least for the near future. Current robots just aren't capable of drilling several meters beneath the Red Planet's surface, for example, or rappelling down into a lava tube by themselves.

"There are so many different things, so many complicated processes, that a human could do as long as they had a backup, a partner, to help them," Carberry said, "but robots can't ? or if they can, it's going to take them an awful long time."

Steve Squyres of Cornell University, principal investigator for NASA's highly accomplished Spirit and Opportunity Mars rovers, has acknowledged the slow pace of robotic explorers.

Ted Cruz Could Be the Barry Goldwater of 2016 ? Except Win!

Ted?Cruz didn't expect to be thinking about a presidential run just four months after being sworn in as the junior Senator from Texas, The National Review's Robert Costa reports, but "Cruz's rapid ascent and a flurry of entreaties from conservative leaders have stoked [his allies'] interest ? and Cruz's."?Cruz is a man who clearly has tremendous confidence in his own abilities ? he's scolded a fellow senator about the Constitution, he read Shakespeare during an anti-drone filibuster, and just the other day he called his fellow Republican senators "squishes." This has not made him many friends in the Senate, where a rare bipartisan consensus has formed that he's kind of a jerk. But it has won him many, many fans outside the Senate.

RELATED: The 2016 Guessing Game Needs to End

"Ted won't be opening an Iowa office anytime soon, but he's listening," a Cruz person told The National Review. Except that?Cruz is giving a speech to South Carolina Republicans this week, and on May 29, he'll go where the money is ??New York Republicans' annual dinner. Republican activists are tired of moderates. Costa writes:

His supporters argue that he?d be a Barry Goldwater type ? a nominee who would rattle the Republican establishment and reconnect the party with its base ??but with better electoral results.

This is fascinating. Goldwater didn't rally the Republican base ? he created it. At right is the 1964 electoral map, the result of Goldwater's opposition to civil rights laws, and which was the beginning of the base of the GOP shifting to the South. Today, the Republican Party thinks it has to reach out to Latino voters to win the White House. Among activists, one of Cruz's top selling points is that he's opposed to the immigration reform bill pushed by fellow Republican Marco Rubio, which h Rubio himself now admits the bill won't pass in the House, which is much closer to the GOP base than the Senate. At the Conservative Political Action Conference in March, Ann Coulter declared, "I'm now a single-issue voter against amnesty, so [Chris] Christie's off my list... Ted Cruz is still on my list." Former Bush speechwriter David Frum tweeted Wednesday, "do not underestimate the appetite of GOP base for candidate w Spanish surname who opposes immigration deal."

RELATED: Lou Dobbs: Don't Change 14th Amendment

The top contenders for the Republicans nomination in 2016 (at least in 2013) are senators ? Rubio, Rand Paul, maybe Cruz. That might have something to do with the fact that one of Republican senators' major responsibilities (at least since 2008) is to filibuster things. There are 36 Republican governors, but many have annoyed the GOP base ? New Jersey's Chris Christie said nice things about President Obama and remains open to compromise, New Mexico's Susana Martinez took Obamacare's Medicaid expansion, Louisiana's Bobby Jindal has seen his popularity collapse. And what has cost Rubio some 2016 popularity was that he actually tried to do something by proposing an immigration reform bill. At a Tea Party rally Friday, Cruz railed against the Republicans who wouldn't filibuster gun legislation, saying, "They said, 'Listen, before you did this, the politics of it were great. The [Democrats] were the bad guys, the Republicans were the good guys. Now we all look like a bunch of squishes.' ...?Well, there is an alternative. You could just not be a bunch of squishes." Barry Goldwater was a great alternative to squishes. He failed to win the White House.
